AFC Wk49-NYC Girl

this weeks post for A Fashionable Challange is NYC Girl.

i became very homesick for NYC working on this illo.

i lived in manhattan, on the upper east side for 20 plus years. i spent my childhood in wisconsin, but i grew up in manhattan.

i left my hometown with 2 suitcases, a college diploma and a couple of thousand dollars. i was going to work in the fashion industry. well, that's what i thought anyway.

i had met my future room mate at a college friend's sister's wedding. she was moving to manhattan from a small town in pennsylvania in a couple of months and asked me if i was interested in rooming with her.  i said- you betcha!

the wedding was in late june. i put all of my affairs in order and by late september i was living in manhattan.

there were tough times and wonderful times in those 20 odd years.

my heart broke the day the twin towers came down. i worked one train stop from the world trade center. i overslept the morning we were attacked, and never made it to work. i sat and watched the news all day, wondering what i could do for all those people who did and didn't make it out. all i could do was pray and cry...

i knew after 9-11 it was time for me to take my adventures to another part of
the good old U.S. of A. i settled in northern california. it was time to put my artistic talents to work as a visual display artist and sometimes fine artist.

life is good and moving on fast. so much to do and never enough time to get it done. But when there is a moment to remember, i think of all the wonder friends and family i left behind in NYC and hope all is well with my favorite place in the world.
